My recent piece, “Coat of Arms” reflects the Australian landscape, the snow and lemon scented gums hanging on the hills. The rich tapestry of colours in the hills, the outcrops of rocks, and the ebb and flow of the organic lines.
The inspiration comes from an image that popped into my head after a day nap one Sunday! I had this vision of a traditional brass buttoned coat hanging in the landscape cuddling an emu and a kangaroo! Our Coat of Arms depicted in a different manner!
The constant pull and push of our non-indigenous and indigenous cultures depicted with the rising emu leg.
The white and black hands are softened by both cuddling the stars of our Coat of Arms, the Emu, and Kangaroo.
The notion of both of these animals being capable of only going forward, not backwards.
The future is full of hope depicted by the road through the centre of the coat.
